Chena - Pogo Mine
Project Details
Project ID:
1682
Nickname/Abbreviation:
UCPM
Parent Project:
Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (Earth MRI)
Status:
Active
Description:
The Chena-Pogo Mine field-geologic mapping project is part of the ongoing USGS and DGGS collaborative efforts to upgrade geologic data in the Yukon-Tanana Uplands as part of the larger Earth MRI project for FY2023. The project proposes to map a ~14,400 km2 (~5,560 mi2) area of the YTU at 1:100,000 scale. The proposed area adjoins the FFY2022 Earth MRI Mount Harper map and includes parts of the Big Delta, Circle, Fairbanks, and Charley River quadrangles. It includes the Pogo mine and surrounding prospects (Au, with potential to produce Bi and Te), and the Furs W-skarn prospect, among others.
The project will include about ten weeks of helicopter-supported fieldwork plus compilation and infill mapping of DGGS (Salcha River-Pogo, Upper Chena River) and USGS (Big Delta B-1 and B-2) geologic maps and industry data available within the map area.
