Description:
The Steese area geologic mapping project is part of the ongoing USGS and DGGS collaborative efforts to upgrade geologic data in the Yukon-Tanana Uplands as part of the larger Earth MRI project for FY2024. The project proposes to map a ~9,600 km2 (~3,700 mi2) area of the YTU at 1:100,000 scale. The proposed area adjoins the FFY2023 Earth MRI Chena-Pogo map (in progress) and includes parts of the Circle, Livengood, Fairbanks, and Big Delta quadrangles. It includes the Fairbanks and Circle mining districts (18 million ounces of gold produced to date; potential for W, Bi, Sb, As coproduction), the Roy Creek prospect (U, Th, REE, F; associated with peralkaline syenite stock and including total REE up to 15%), the Lime Peak-Cache Mountain area (granite-related Sn-W prospects), and Table Mountain and Mount Prindle areas (Au, W). The project will include about ten weeks of helicopter-supported fieldwork (split between 2024 and 2025 field seasons), plus compilation and revisiting of key problem
